The Miracles of Jesus
The miracles performed by Jesus probably provide the most compelling and undisputable proof of the deity of Jesus. In John 10:22-39, some Jews are ready to stone Jesus for claiming to be God. Jesus did NOT back down from His claim to be God, but He clarified that His good works testify of Him and they should believe Him because of His good works of which certainly include His miracles.
The miracles performed by Jesus demonstrated REAL supernatural power. There were no illusions; no smoke and mirrors. Much of the healing performed by Jesus cannot be duplicated by man still today. But even if man has developed cures for some of the conditions that Jesus healed, Jesus did it without the aide of modern medicine and equipment.
John 21:25 says,"And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written." Even if we don't have a complete record of His miracles, God does give us the information that we need to know for edification and spiritual maturity. Therefore, we should study the miracles in the Bible by Jesus and understand what those miracles demonstrate. Consider the few miracles listed below and the possible understandings we could derive from those miracles.
- Change water into wine: this demonstrated Jesus's authority and power over matter
- Fed the thousands: this demonstrated Jesus's authority and power of creation
- Cast out demons: this demonstrated Jesus's authority and power over demons and Satan
- Calmed the storm and the water and walked on water: this demonstrated Jesus's authority and power over nature and the laws of nature
- Cured all manner of disease and physical deformity: this demonstrated Jesus's authority and power over illness and decease
- Twice Jesus prevented Peter, John and James from catching fish all night only to give them a huge catch of fish at the end: this demonstrated Jesus's authority over animals, but it also demonstrates His authority and power over our provisions and our careers.
- Raised others and Himself from the dead: this demonstrated Jesus's authority and power over sin and death
